Why is it called "Pungra" and not "bhangra"?

In 2012, founder Ravi Sandhu came across a YouTube video of a woman with no Punjabi background teaching a beachside class she introduced as a "Bhangra workout." The track playing was actually a Hindi film song, not Punjabi music, and the movement didn't match it — an honest mistake, but one born of not knowing any better. Ravi found himself imagining what he'd teach her if he ever got the chance, starting from lesson one: how to say the word correctly. That first lesson became the organisation's name.

We treat the name as part of the brand's story rather than a settled linguistic ruling — if you're a Punjabi speaker or linguist with views on the pronunciation itself, we'd genuinely welcome the conversation rather than presenting it as closed.
