What are the "four rooms" of Punjabi music and movement?

Punjabi music and movement show up in at least four distinct contexts, and Pungra deliberately specialises in only one of them — much like running covers everything from jogging to sprinting, or swimming covers everything from a fun paddle to competitive laps, dancing to Punjabi music covers more than one activity, even though "bhangra" often gets used as a catch-all word for all of it:

  1. Moving to Punjabi music — the oldest root, meditative and devotional.

  2. Celebrating to Punjabi music — the wedding floor; spontaneous, social, no instructor or qualification needed.

  3. Performing to Punjabi music — the stage; a legitimate trade built on years of artistic training.

  4. Exercising to Punjabi music — structured fitness, led by a qualified instructor, with participant health as the goal. This is the one Pungra specialises in.

None of the four is lesser than the others — they're just different activities that happen to share musical roots, and conflating them is where most confusion (and most low-quality "bhangra fitness" classes) comes from.
